One of,if not the, finest bike road in the country.
Its can be pretty fast in places but a lot of it consists of snaking sections of road which almost turn back on itself in a few places and I think its particularly suited to V-twins torquey engines rather than dancing through a four cylinder machines gearbox.
Theres a fair amount of completely blind bends, usually over summits and care has to be taken to avoid dawdling cars on the other side, its not uncommon to see cars just stopped for the occupant to take photos.
In between these summits there are loads of stretches where you can see the road for a long way, tempting you into taking the bends a bit faster.
As in all country roads there are little patches of stones here and there, not a huge problem but you'll need to look out for them.
I've done it north/south and south/north and not sure which I prefer, try both!
Its a pretty good road for superbikes, but when I tried it again on a monster I enjoyed it a lot more and I think it would be good on a multistrada too. This may be due to the riding position or a less speed oriented bike, not sure yet.

I did this road last year on the ST4s, riding south Oban to Lochgilphead and it was a cracker. I remember one corner in particular, an uphill left followed by a blind sharp right. I nearly ran into the back of my mate who got caught out and was heading for the barbed wire fence
Highly recommended.:)

It's got my vote as the best biking road in Scotland, especially if you add the bit from Inveraray to Lochgilphead too. Stunning in all respects, and a few nice bits to stop for breath and look at the scenery.

Funnily, I just happened to be planning to include that on the big tour towards the end of this month...

love it, but you need to keep your wits about you, and not let the red mist come down, as I ahve only been once down the road and not!!!!!!!!!!!!! seen wreckage / aftermath from accidents, the A82 from Crianlarich (no doubt spelt wrong, but I`m english so sue me) to just south of lochgilped is ablast too

did it North-South couple of years ago - concur with all that's said - even the uphill left hander (one of many probably) which I left rapidly as it tightened up and disappeared into a four foot ditch with Fireblade ending upside down on top of me...... how we laughed.......

I first did it in 1978 south up to Oban on a Z650 and it was such a fab road I remembered to do it with my mate and I (both on RGS Laverdas) again in 1989. The following year we did it Oban downwards on our way home.
It isn't exactly 'on the way home' from the midgie masher tho:eek:
