went to the NEC bike show just after the Longway Round series had aired. KTM stand empty. BMW stand struggling to cope with the amount of people on it.
Do you think the Multi would be up to it, or even the new Hypo?

My Multi went down to the Sahara desert (sorry to keep harping on about it for those of you that have heard it before) but i would prefer a KTM or BMW to do a proper off road round the world trip on it. Of course the Multi's design brief is different and not really meant to be an off road bike.

I got back from Morocco just before the NEC and offered the disgustingly filthy bike bike to Ducati for their stand at the NEC but the offer was declined (though Nigel was keen on the idea) The same bike had also done John O Groats to Lands End in a day, a couple of months beforehand so i thought it would make a good advert for the versatility of the Multi and help dispell some of the myths about posuers on Ducati's

Preparation of Trip/Scotland/England
New series. Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman are back on their motorcycles three years after circumnavigating the globe. This time they plan to travel a gruelling 15,000 miles from John O'Groats to South Africa in a 20-country, three-month adventure. As they make their final preparations for the journey, the future of the trip is jeopardised when Ewan breaks his leg two months before departure
Sunday 28th October on BBC 2 from 21:00 to 22:00

Ewan McGregor, Charley Boorman and the team continue their journey through Europe and into northern Africa. Tension mounts as they fall behind schedule and are forced to race to catch the weekly ferry that will take them down the Nile into Sudan. Later, further problems arise when they are caught in a sandstorm while travelling along the coast of Libya.
Looks like this could be a bit more exciting than last weeks episode!
Tonight BBC2 21.00

Ewan McGregor, Charley Boorman and the team continue their journey through northern Africa. The riders overcome poor visibility to catch their ferry from Egypt, though conditions worsen when they arrive in Sudan. The sweltering heat and rocky terrain push bikes and riders to the limits of their endurance, leading to an accident for one of the adventurers

Standard sky box now on the blink, not done bad for 7 years old, inquired after Sky+, £99 for new box and £29 for fitting, no subscription cost changes!

Sorted!

Steve, mind you need 2 inputs now instead of 1. £29 seems too cheep for SKY!

yeah, i told them just to send me the box but they said they had to put a second connection from the dish thing? I thought it seemed cheap too, oh and hes doing it Sunday morning too

Keep an eye on these SKY @@@@ers that come to put the cable in. Usually a couple of young neddy halfwits who have never picked up a Mecano set, never mind a 24 volt battery gun.

I ran my 2nd cable behind the skirting and all they had to do was drill a hole, push cable through and run it up to the dish. The silly @@@@s drilled from the out side inwards and drilled right through the door frame instead of the brickwork!!!

well the first hole is right behind the telly, so i really hope the second one aint too complicated for them, if they look unsure i'll do it for 'em!

They stood and drilled from the outside at my patio and into the house, probably to save themselves sweeping up. I could have wrapped his fancy DeWalt power tool round his neck!! I wouldnt let any of these @@@@s wire a plug!

May be stating the blindingly obvious here but....make sure the drill hole angles upwards when drilling from outside to inside, particularly if it is across a cavity wall.

Have a look at the wall ties in a cavity - twist in the middle means any damp in the cavity hits the twist and falls down hopefully to below the dpc/dpm.
When you install windows in cavity walls you use a dpm (damp proof membrane) with the inner piece at least one course above the outer piece. Again this promotes the downward>outer flow of damp in the cavity.

Lot of people just bang a hole in the wall and stick a drain/cable/pipe through the wall and invariably it leads to damp inner walls.

Just a "trick" to remember when breachng the cavity so to speak.

Besides being a condensation/heat break the cavity prevents (in most cases) the damp progression from the outer brickwork to the inner brickwork - unless you have a 9inch solid wall in which case robust pointing is one of the keys.

Ta for the explanation.............seems logical enough

I just put a little bit of silicone around the gaps though ;)

ooohh, I like a bit of silicon, but the angle of the hole is supposed to also prevent the damp inside the cavity from drooling down the cable to the inner brickwork.
