Thanks to Derek for finding this (http://www.DucCutters.com/VectorArt.tpl) link to a website where you can download vector (eps) Ducati logos. Please note that these are outline vector logos not Ducati fonts.

You're on the ball Gizmo. I'd only just found that website this morning and hadn't yet explored it far enough to find the vector graphics section  There's some good stuff in there too.

Hi!
If you need any Ducati logo's/sponsorship logo's or anything... give me a shout, I've gorra massive collection all in .eps format.

About 10 gigs worth!

Even down to vintage Ducati mechanica logo's....

does anyone know which font is used for 1098 on the upper fairings of the bike?

I'm looking to get '800' written in the same font for my minitwin project.

Thanks in advance :)

I've seen references to it being chinoise bold but would be very surprised if its a stock font, the way graphics designers now work they tweak a font, both with its shape and spacing to get it to looking "correct" as a logo. I'm sat looking at concepts from our graphics for the logo of a new model we've got coming and whilst i know the start font I couldn't type it in and get anything like whats sat on my screen from the graphics boys.

Attached is a zipped eps of different versions of the 1098 logo, you should be able to open in illustrator and grab the 8 and 0 and make your own custom logo, export it and get it cut.

Gotta love linux :D

Brought up the Ubuntu download centre, 2 mins later I have inkscape, and 10 mins learning it I create the 800 logo eps file.

Fantastic and thanks again.

Hmmm.

Interesting and thanks for the link Michael.

Does anyone know what the font is/was for the 996/998/748 letttering on the side of the farings.

Wanting my brother to make me up some fairings with 772R on seems as though that's what I have now :)

Thanks, Guy

I am looking for a font for the PC, so I can 'make stuff' in the likes of MS Publisher etc. I have found the sites which require me to pay 25 for it and they can f*ck off...

The usual suspects like 1001fonts and freefonts don't have it, probably because it belongs to adobe.

Does anyone have an idea where I can find 'Univers Extra Black Oblique' for nowt or nearly nowt? It's the OEM font for DUCATI, albeit with custom spacing ...

Cheers

I use a program called SignLab at work and the Ducati letter style on there is called Union XK (see my avatar).
I have it in VEF format if that is any good.
It might only be any use with signmaking software.

I have received and installed the required fonts which I received from a DUN member. I have not included a name as it was done via PM and I'm not sure if they would want it advertised?

Many thanks to the member in question though!

Probably better to not name names or put links in, software piracy whilst not as horrific a crime as say loud cans or dark visors is still illegal :D :D

Incidentally, if anyone wants the font that Ducati currently uses for the model designation on their bikes, i.e.

http://typophile.com/files/Picture11.jpg

It's a free font called "BN Elements", available here:

http://www.dafont.com/bn-elements.font?nb_ppp=50&psize=s&text=SUPERBIKE848

You need to change the width to 200% and the kerning (space between letters) to around -20 to reproduce the Ducati look.

Sadly that's the view of most pirates, i.e it only stops the copyright owner getting richer but software piracy helps fund terrorism, human trafficking and drug cartels as well as bigger fraud. You may think it's just ripping off a font and it's a victimless crime but it really isn't and it is still a crime....</soapbox>

Piracy only funds something if you are paying someone for the pirated goods. Downloading a font designed in 1954 (I think Linotype have probably had a few years to make some money from it ) for free isn't going to fund terrorism, human trafficking or anything else.

I didn't make the comment about the Linotype font Milo although if it was created in 1954 there are ten years of copyright ownership left in it, I was responding to the generic comment on software piracy which does help fund all those other unpleasant pastimes and yes it is theft, there are no shades of grey in that.....

It might be theft, but it can't fund anything unless you pay for it!

This thread is all about fonts... the comment you quoted was in response to a post about a Linotype font being shared by two members. I think Michael was using the word software rather than "digital assets", but it was about a font.

I don't get all misty eyed when I hear about someone downloading an ancient font owned by a huge corporation just like I don't get upset when someone gives me a parking ticket they bought with time left to run. Both are technically offences in the eyes of the law, but as Charles Dickens wrote, the law is sometimes an ass...

Well if you're comfortable with theft and don't get misty eyed about it Milo, that's your choice....it's an interesting stance but it is your prerogative of course. ;-)

I don't see the world in black and white, I see it in shades of grey.

Maybe we should arrest the people who copied music cassettes in the 80s and swapped them in the playground. I hear there may be some spaces free at Guantanamo Bay soon.

Hell NO! - I made great pocket money from doing this back in the 70's! As I remember, enough to afford a ultra hi-tech Sony Walkman - so blame Sony :D

Holy thread revival!
