Default So, is it a 1098 or an 1198?

Sat watching the superpole tonight and I noticed that the 1098R's are stickered up with 1198 logos - so are they racing 1098R's? or have they swapped to a modified 1198S??, if its still 1098R surely that will p'ss off prospective buyers

They seem to be running with 1198 to advertise it.. I think though that the race bikes are still 1098R's. As you'll know the R's have a 1198cc engine anyway. In the end of the day its just a number, whats underneath the skin hasn't changed...
All i've ever wanted to do is just ride !!

but , the 1198 uses different crankcases and a few other mods and will eventually be the homologated race bike so how do we know which model it is under the skin? I can see why thy would put 1198 on it but that then doesn't advertise the 1098R . i bet the marketing dept took all winter to decide what to label it

I bet it's a 1098R, because the R engine is massively different and a far better base to make a race bike from. As is Ducati's habit, the differences tend to filter down as time goes on and the S spec will probably begin to approach the R's.
