Have a look at the Newton Stewart thread. Might be too far west but there will be a few of us there.

I'm new to this forum and live in N.Yorks. I intend going to New Galloway for the ride in to Newton Stewart (I've already bought a ticket).
My plan was to leave home about 7 ish from the Settle area getting to New Galloway for around 10.30am.
Due to the distances involved I was going to jump on M6 from Penrith to Gretna which I appreciate is not ideal if you want to stay on decent roads all day.
If you fancy it I could ride up/meet up with you en route.......just a thought.

The downside to this plan is that the whole area will be busy with bikes which will obviously attract a certain amount of attention.

We can get there via other roads in the same sort of time. Not on the M6, oh no........ So you're in Settle, yes?

    Settle........Yes.
I'm open to suggestions re route if you fancy it.
I could perhaps meet up somewhere on the way.

I'm away this weekend so will look again on here later today or Sunday evening.

OK. Had any more thoughts about this run. I could give you a call to discuss if you want to PM your number.
I could change my route to suit. I was planning going from Settle at about 7ish but could leave earlier if not using M6.

It's not that far really. About 40 mins from you to Carlisle, then no more than an hour to Newton Stewart. Loads of time. 0730 would be fine, about 35/40 mins minutes from here to you. What time does the gas station in town open? The one by the railway bridge, out near the turn off for Stainforth? I'll fuel there so we're both on the same stops.

Petrol Staion you describe opens at 7am..........but I'll double ckeck tomorrow.

Carlisle is 80 miles from Settle. It takes me 1 1/2 hrs at least without breaking my neck!!!......maybe I'm getting too slow.....

I'll PM you my number to discuss.

Penrith to Settle is about an hour if you use A6/A65, quicker if you use M6, Carlisle would be at least 1 30 if you did it A65/A6 all the way and you still need to hop motorway from 42 to Gretna, its 15 minutes compared to about 30 minutes plus going via A69, Brampton then Longtown then on to gretna. thats sensible speeds, slowing down in villages and opening it up when you can.

Maybe a bit too early although I dont mind. I just wanted to get to New Galloway for 10/10.30ish in time for brew, bacon butty and chat, prior to ride in to Newton Stewart.
The petrol station definately opens at 7am in Settle and I'm happy to meet there where I will also be fuelled up and ready to go shortly afterwards, say 7.15ish?....
I know M6 is a pain but I didnt think I could make it in time without a short hop at least around Carlisle.

On a positive note - you are less likely to come into contact with stray hounds on the M6 and more likely to get there in time - boring though it may be.

Why do the M6 when you have the best biking road in the North running alongside? I'll be doing the A6. Wait for you at Junction 42 Golden Fleece Truck stop. See you at the gas station in Settle 7.15. W.P.
