Good use of a wheelie bin though.

LoL, I wonder who would comment on the politically correct wheelie bin ;-)

Been out for a few miles today and it is really comfy, setting off is still a bit of an issue mind!

    Default A roundtoit

I purchased a building plot 14 and a half yrs ago a year later I had the planning application passed, 1 yr and one month later we moved in to the house that we built a further 12yrs and 5 months later (where does all the time go) I finally got around to building a set of gates for the drive and hanging them today. ( it was to keep the new pup from wandering off) next step is to get the automation and copper lanterns for the pillars installed probably over the Christmas period. Well chuffed on how they turned out!

    Spare a thought

Next time you do your fork seals and think you are having a hard time spare a thought. My guillotine rams started leaking oil as were the hold down clamps. Finmally they gave up big time and the dog took to lying in the hydraulic oil that was seaping onto the floor. Seal kit 450 ( 46 seals in total) quote from Safan to come strip and change the seals re set blades four nights in a hotel 6.5 k ffs I bought the machine for 7.5k.
I was given the number for a friendly retired Safan engineer who just happened to be into bikes. He gave me the low down on how to approach the job step by step what to expect each stage and how to counter react, what a mine of info that guy has.

    Day one/two
Getting the nuts undone that hold the ram in place was a ball ache 5 ft or 1524mm extension on the 70mm spanner was prooving difficult heat and soaking in plusgas over the period of two days and I only managed to remove 3 of the 6 nuts.

    Day three
Had a break away in Ireland then came back fighting. I had purchased a 70mm slogging spanner and with heat, oil and a big hammer i managed to remove the remaining three nuts, the machine was built in 1984 and I doubt they had been removed within that period. The rams were that heavy I had to move them about using a sack barrow. Stripped, inspected, cleaned and rebuilt and back in place within the day.

    Day four

Hold down clamps x18 stripped cleaned and re-sealed 4hrs ,new filter and topped up the hydraulic oil then a call to the Safan Man who took me through the startup procedure of priming the system then charging the oil system a few final blade adjustments now my Guilloting has BIG LOVE FOR ME!. A case of Stewarts Radical Road is now on its way to Nothampton cheers buddy!

Sounds like a hellish job that badly needed doing. Would an impact gun have made removal of the nuts any easier?

Access was one of my biggest problems. I had to machine the slogging ring spanner in the milll to reduce the o/d then grind the corners off to make round so I could slip it between the main beam and the nut, you can see a recess milled into the beam to allow a spanner in. The open ended spanner was just springing as the nuts were so tight.
