Default Things that go bump in the night (or day!)...

    Hello All,

I am posting this for your amusement, discomfort and/or horror. These are pictures of what can happen to a Ducati bevel bottom end when 'things go wrong'.

I rode from Antwerp to South of Bergerac in a day on my bike in around 1981. Somewhere near Paris I became aware of a ticking from the engine; In my heart of hearts I knew what was wrong but really didn't want to consider it. Here are the cages, pin, rollers etc.,

    And just the pin...

A close up of the damage...

And one of the needle rolloers...

By the time I arrived at my destination of St. Sernin De Duras, Near Duras 47.120 France, the ticking had changed to a cacophony, it sounded like someone hitting the crankcases with a crowbar. Nightmare. The result was a full rebuild with an external full flow lubrication system.

The damaged (ruined) crank has been languishing in my garage ever since; I had it dismantled to see what could be used; Needless to say, not much!

Screw a lampshade on the end of the crank and stick it on the bay, bet you get a fortune for it
you can run............ but I'd rather be on my Monster

    Default Dead Sheep..

Ah yes, Modern Art! Why didn't I think of that?

Perhaps if I drop it in a large tank full of formaldehyde and call it 'dead big end', with a few needle rollers scattered about forlornly I might realise its true value. I might even throw in a con rod.
