    Default Ducati up for sale?

It seems that VW/Audi are considering selling Ducati
    http://www.cnbc.com/2017/04/26/volks...ti-report.html

Jorge Lorenzo of Spain rides Ducati for Ducati Team during a practice session at the Grand Prix of Qatar on March 23, 2017 in Doha, Qatar.

Volkswagen is considering options for its motorcycle brand Ducati as it seeks to streamline its portfolio, two people familiar with the matter said.

Europe's largest carmaker has tasked investment banking boutique Evercore with evaluating possible options including a sale of the thoroughbred brand, which VW unit Audi acquired in 2012, they added.

While Volkswagen has started reaching out to potential buyers to sound out their interest, no decision has been taken on whether the firm will be divested, they added.

Audi and Evercore declined to comment.

Default Ducati might be up for sale !

just read the below in Bike Sport News..
Ducati may be put up for sale by its owners Volkswagen, according to leading news agency Reuters and financial newspaper City AM. The iconic marque was bought in 2012 by Audi, a VW subsidiary, but now Europe’s largest car maker is looking to streamline its operations following the “Dieselgate” crisis and is reigning in spending in all areas. Thousands of jobs are likely to go as the focus turns to electric vehicles according to CityAM, a normally reliable source, and investment advisers Evercore have been brought in to evaluate all options. A City source to bikesportnews.com:“It was never quite clear why Audi bought Ducati in the first place other than that it is one of the world’s great brands, it sat quite nicely alongside Audi and Porsche, BMW had a successful motorbike division and the CEO liked bikes. The Scrambler has sold well but sportsbikes in Europe have declined in sales.”

This story has been flying around the rumour mill for quite a while now.

I just don't see it happening; it just wouldn't move the needle enough to make it worthwhile.

Ducati is worth somewhere between 1bn and 1.5bn euros. They were purchased for 860mil euro in 2012. so whilst a tidy but very small profit if sold, it hardly makes a bulge in the company coffers. Ducati has never built so many bikes or been so profitable so it's unlikely they'll be up for sale. I suppose a counter argument would be to say "this is the best time to sell as the company has never been so strong" but I don't really think it'll happen.

VAG turnover in 2016 was 217bn euros. VAG also had their biggest year ever in 2016 and some reports have them overtaking Toyota as the worlds biggest car manufacturer with over 10.3million units sold. The resulting 2016 profits were up 9.6% at Volkswagen Financial Services at $2.27 billion. Audi alone had profit of $3.3 billion. Porsche's profits were up 14% to a record $4.2 billion and thre are more on the list that take the overall VAG profit result to circa 17billion euros.

Even with an estimated 5-7 billion euros set aside for Deiselgate and all of the accompanying legal settlements, this would still leave VAG with a significant profit of over 10bn euros if all of those settlements happened in one year (which they wont - they'll be spread over considerabe time). Couple that with the recordbreaking results from the group overall, VAG whilst hurting at the cost of this, can easily ride out the storm.

Turning back to Ducati, there's a profit for a lock stock and barrel sale of 150-200ml euros and even floating the company would generate hunderds of millions of euros but in the grand scheme of things, VAG would hardly feel the benefit.

Some reports suggest Ducati could be sold to help fund the investment in electric vehicles but again, the profit raised is small beer next to the big numbers VAG deal with.

Whatever happens, i'm not concerned? I do think it's a rumour but even if it's not, a new buyer would be crazy to really mess with things now as the brand is strong and never done so well.

We have moved premises to 6 Mossland Drive, Hillington Park, GLasgow G52 4FA. Take Junction 26 of M8 towards Arnold Clark, double back at the roundabout and take first left. Approximately 7 minutes drive from the old store at Great Western Road - We'd love to see you

Its a pity Harley didn't buy it quicker, it would have saved Ducati Glasgow having to build a new place, they could just have moved straight in to the new bosses building. Just think of all the discounts that could have been offered if the build & moving costs hadn't had to have been paid out....

I don't understand why it would have saved d.g from moving, , they moved to increase turnover and profit, incedently if Martin doesn't know the real story, then nobody on the forum has any idea, he deals with them every day, either that or he does know and isn't saying..

That's very true, I don't dispute that they needed to move, but the forum is about being able to voice an opinion whether right or wrong, by the way like your choice in bikes.

Nobody has bought anything yet. It has been made clear that any sale isn't going to happen until the autumn. Harley are just one interested party along with Royal Enfield, Bajaj and several others. So don't panic.
I doubt if Martin has any more idea what is going on than the rest of us but I expect that he will be among the first to know when it does.
