Default Desmo Challenge di Scozia 2018

The awards for last year's Challenge were presented at yesterday's AGM. Well done Iain Angela and Allan.
By popular demand I have been asked to present another Challenge to members for 2018.

Once again we offer a selection of checkpoints to encourage you to enjoy the wonderful scenery and roads in Scotland, and visit places and discover objects that you probably would never notice. The object is to ride your bike to as many of the checkpoints listed in the itinerary as possible. It is not a race. The aim is to enjoy the planning, take your time, visit the places and take all season to do it.

Registration for the Desmo Challenge and payment of a £5 *entry fee will be required to participate in this event. The fee is to help cover the cost of awards on completion of the event.

    The awards structure will be:

    GOLD AWARD
Visiting and photographing your bike at all 30 checkpoints.

    SILVER AWARD
Visiting and photographing your bike at 25 checkpoints.

    BRONZE AWARD
Visiting and photographing your bike at 20 checkpoints

Participants must be members of the Scottish Ducati Club.

    Only Ducati motorcycles are eligible.

Checkpoints will all be in Scotland.

An itinerary of the checkpoints will be sent out to you on receipt of the application form and entry fee.

You can start as soon as you like. Claims and photo evidence should be returned to the event organiser by the end of November for an awards presentation at the AGM in February. These can be provided electronically, via photo sharing website, on a CD or as hard copies.

    To register send an email to Derek Blackie [email protected] with your details;
Name……..Bike Model…. Registration Number….
If you will be using more than one bike please provide the details for any additional bike(s)

    * In view of the club's excellent bank balance the committee have decided, for this year only, to reduce the fee. They hope that this will encourage more of you to take part.

    Thumbs up Entry fee reduced

Just in case nobody noticed the edit to the first post

The entry fee has been reduced to just £5 for this year only, so get your names down and have a bash. You'll enjoy it

    I hope you're paying attention davief155

Hi Derek - given the name of the challenge, does it have to be a Ducati, or will a desmo engined bike suffice?

Hi Mike, since it is a desmo engine it must be a Ducati engine and knowing you the bike is most likely a Bimoto. So it is Italian and at least 33% Ducati and since you are an SDC member I guess I can bend the rules a little and allow it to be eligible.

Gonna have a go this year as I've added a more comfortable road bike to the garage.
    Cheers

Thumbs up Desmo Challenge looking good

Thanks to all who have entered so far. The uptake is already much better than last year which heartens me a lot and makes my work feel more worthwhile. The more the better.

When planning your routes and if you have anything to pass on about what you find when out on the Challenge you can always communicate on here or even on the Facebook page.
The planning is the most important part, so that you can cover as many checkpoints as possible without covering the same roads twice if you can help it. Find out where the checkpoints are, how to get to them and what they look like before even leaving the house.

Good luck to all of you who have entered and let's hope for dry roads and good weather this year.

I've created a Google map of all the checkpoints if that helps anyone
Or is that against the spirit?

I can recommend the use of MyRoute-App. Just using the basic free version you can plot out your routes then transfer them to your satnav. There is an App for phones too and they are about to release a navigation system for phones. I doubt if that will be free though but if you are using a phone for navigation Waze is very good and is available for both Android and iOS.

    Default The Mirror Man Sculpture

    All Challengers - please note

If you are out doing the Desmo Challenge checkpoints please be aware that the Mirror Man sculpture isna there!

A year or two ago it was knocked over into the water during winter storms so it may be that the 4 Seasons Hotel have taken it down over the winter and it will be re-erected soon. If you are there and there is no sign of the sculpture, a picture of the loch taken from outside the 4 Seasons will be suffice.
