    Default ST4s Starting Issue- Immobiliser?

I have owned a 2003 ST4s for a few years now and ever since the starter solenoid was replaced she has been a good starter. A few days ago I went to take her for a spin and she did not want to start. After several attempts I eventually got her going but knew something was amiss. This morning I had the same issue but could not get her started at all. Battery is recent and has a strong voltage, starter motor is turning over nicely and fuel pump is engaging but she wonít fire up. When I turn on the ignition, the immobiliser light goes out, flashes then comes on permanently- canít remember if this is normal. I have taken a video clip so you can see what happens.

I have the red key and key card- any advice on where to start / potential solutions much appreciated!

    Cheers

That is not normal, the immobiliser light should go out. Check to see if it flashes a few times before staying on. If it does count the flashes. This table might help diagnose what is wrong.

Thank you for your reply and info Derek-one flash is indicating a bad connection somewhere it seems. I recently had the fairing off so maybe I dislodged some connections. Job for the weekend!

A single flash indicates no serial connection to the ECU. The immobiliser is mounted under the LH side of the fairing below the relays and flasher unit. It has a 3-way connector with 2 wires to the antenna at the ignition switch and a 8-way connector with 5 wires which include permanent 12V, switched 12v, ground, a serial connection to the ECU and a wire to warning light in the tacho. Check that this connector is clean and fully home.
The wires from the 8-way connector , apart from the warning light wire, go through the troublesome 25-way connector to the main loom which could well be where the problem lies. The serial wire is orange/blue. You should be able to check it for continuity from the immobiliser connector to pin 7 of the grey ECU connector.

Thank you so much for the detailed info- very helpful! My gut feeling is because I did get it started the other day, and ran it for a 100 miles it may hopefully be a simple fix once I trace the dodgy connection.

Spot on Derek- all sorted now! After a bit of fiddling with the 8 way connector I got her started. Have secured it better with a cable tie to stop it moving when bars are turned which I think was putting strain on the wires.

Massive thank you for your help and advice!

    Cheers
