Sorry for responding on this thread but the other one has been closed.

I've been reading the comments and had to ask as my take on what was discussed at the AGM seems to differ somewhat from others, although I do apologise given I was somewhat distracted by Ross requiring my attention at some points.

I was under the impression after discussion that various outlets all had their advantages and disadvantages, and that posting on all of them in terms of organising events was a role in itself (which is why it was created when it never used to exist- it used to be part of the secretarys' role)****but merited sharing club news and events on all possible medium to reach thebiggest possible audience was the best approach to please all***.

I remember various opinions given about why people do or dont use facebook or DuN etc but I do remember offering a word of advice that all events had to be planned well in advance, have regular discussion and also shared on all of the platforms- BOTH DuN and Facebook as well as twitter, the SDC website, (and now instagram).

I wonder if perhaps the minutes of the AGM could be sourced/shared to clarify exactly what was discussed and agreed?

    ''Note
***edited and added as this seemed to have not been included in my op but I typed it but maybe accidentally deleted before posting.

I can't recall any mention at the AGM of DuN being dropped as a means of communication nor that only Facebook would be used. Instagram definitely wasn't mentioned. Moving entirely to Facebook/Instagram without discussion or even notification seems a very unconstitutional way to treat the club's members. Surely such important issues should be fully discussed before being implemented and the members should be fully informed of any decision reached.
I also think that any paid up member has the right to request a copy of the AGM minutes.

My 10 cents worth: I appreciate Douglas' response and wholeheartedly understand you can't please all the people all the time. However...it's clear there have been communication issues. I had difficulty getting any response about the Highland Fling and had to communicate withe venue directly. I also missed the presence of some of the Ancient stalwarts of the Club (you know who you are!). I would have liked to have attended the mid-summer thing but only found out about it a day before. Although I'm active on "Social Media" (except Twitter, God, do I not care what you had for dinner..) I don't seem to get updates on all events. I don't know why the Forum isn't as active as once was, but I do want to ride my Ducati with like-minded souls. Hoping for sunshine, clear roads and more events. Virtual two-fingered salute.

Exactly, and the forum is so good for other info from other people out with the club.

Surely electronic media is intended to enable not discourage?

The only issue I can see is the need to monitor and collate all the media sources - something which I freely admit to not knowing how to integrate effectively...

    Yes, correct.

And it is tricky to integrate all of the platforms, so its a case of duplicate posts on multiple sites.

    Jees !
I only wanted to know the planned route so I could join in later than 7pm
As for the Highland Fling - would have been there if again I’d got replies to requests for information !
Much of the posts on another thread demonstrate a lot of frustration but I think the fact that volunteers have put themselves in the frame to provide service to the membership should not be forgotten - nobody does that to do a bad job

At least there is communication. No communication no SDC. That has been my entire point.

You are confusing Twitter with Instagram. It’s instagram where I post what I had for tea.

Tbh I came here first when I was looking for events this year after my extended leave of absence and I was surpirsed that there really wasent anything at all on here about the full years events and it was only on fb. Although I have no idea since returning who even runs the sdc fb page? or who on earth I am even speaking to? because all you get is the sdc has replied to your comment feeling like im talking to total strangers rather than a group I used to talk with almost daily.

There dosent seem to be many comments on the fb posts anyway?

At least on here I know whos who :P

That's the best argument/point I've read so far in this ongoing DUN V social media debochal. Well said Wilfie

In terms of asking who runs the sdc Facebook page I suppose the buck stops with me. Because when it was created I was secretary (and so also events) and it was made under my own personal account and all the people using it assigned as admin since then have been through my control.
There is no way of altering that without deleting the page from my account and starting a new one.
There have been a few problems with assigning new committee members access to post as the page, and also new committee members have been granted access but not been able to post stuff for whatever reason, the only thing I can say is Jane has done a great job of adding the events on Facebook but apart from that the sdc Facebook page isn't being used as much as it could.

So Facebook is hardly being used, DuN isn't being used, the website isn't being updated. How are members supposed to know what's happening?

Exactly- and why the specific role of events coordinator was created. Still do-able though.
