    Default Oberon Slave Cylinder

    Hi,

    ive a Y2k 748 BP with 21k on it.

My clutch push rod snapped, symptom was that it would be fine all day, 100 miles or more, but thrash it through the gears and the lever would go soft and and had to clutchless shift in to 5&6th, let it cool and it was fine again.

Previous owner who helped me, replaced the rod about 3 years ago, he said it must be that, Local Ducati Dealer said it couldn't be the rod, never known them snap and it would do it all the time, must be the fluid needs changing/bleeding.

Did the change and it still slipped.

Decided to replace the rod which had snapped on one of the rubber washers and when we took off the cylinder there was a rubber boot, it was split and the previous owner said he must have put it back in there when he fitted the oberon.

It doesn't look like it should be there to be honest as the cylinder fits flush.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks

The Oberon slave doesn't use the rubber boot. I've no idea why the push rod broke though. I've never heard of it before and even if it broke surely the parts would be contained within the tunnel through the gearbox shaft so it would still work. A clutch that goes soft is usually due to air trapped in the line. When it get hots it expands and you lose clutch travel.

How are the bearings in the pressure plate and in the end of the gearbox shaft? Do the broken ends of the shaft look like they were turning against each other?
