As for the forum software, there are plenty of modern alternatives available, some of them free.
I agree and yes there are opensource forum softwares available, but any forum needs a server with web hosting and Domain Name renewal payments, none of which are free and it also needs someone familiar with the software to put it together and make it work.

There is no fee for shutting it down. There is an outstanding bill for it's maintenance. If a guaranteed means of financing it was found it would be possible to update the forum but the current forum owner is not inclined to create a new forum as he is already out of pocket, has a business to look after and can't afford the time to migrate DuN onto a new software platform.
If you feel you can do all this go ahead. I wouldn't like to take it on.

There is a reasonable 'free' option thats been on my sig block all the time Derek - Proboards does not charge but I have a bad feeling that migration has to be done manually!

That could be one solution Frank. Create a new Ducati Up North forum on Proboards with a link to an archive of this one.

    that's news to me.

I would suggest SDC, there is always money in the account.

I have created an alternative Ducati UpNorth forum which you can find here : https://ducati-upnorth.freeforums.net/

At the moment it is at an embryonic stage and largely experimental. You will need to register to join it. You will not be able to login without registering although you can use your existing username and

At the moment it is fairly empty but that will hopefully change if it gets used. If it doesn't get use I'll shut it down. I should be able to add a link to the archive of this forum after it has been shut down so all the old stuff will still be available.

I would appreciate it if some of you could join up and let me know what you think.
