Default B1228 York, Howden, Goole, A161 Crowle

Nicknamed the Howden TT for obvious reasons, this is a fantastic road

I used to use if a lot when I went to Cadwell BSB or Brands WSB each year but wanted an off-A1 route "darn sarf".

Loads of sweeping bends. The section from Goole to Crowle is excellent with hedgeless roads (there are howoever drainage ditches either side of the tarmac!!!).

Another one of thsoe pleasurable rides where you can be in the saddle for 2 hours and not stop or retrace your steps once

    Rough route is

York A64, leave at A1079 for Hull, turn immediately onto B1228 for Elvington/Howden.

Pass through Sutton Upon Derwent and stay on B1228 following signs for Bubwith and Howden. Once at Howden STay on B1228 for Goole.

Once in Goole go onto A161 towards Crowle via Eastoft.

Once in Crowle you can either head into the Lincolnshire Wolds and it's own tarmac delights or turn around and do the route in reverse back to York.

yep it's good although I've not got as far as Goole. We usually head over to Spurn Point for the grub and the views.

To be fair the Howden to Goole bit is [email protected] as there's no 'off-piste' way to get over the M62, but once through Goole the stretch to Crowle is good.

Agree its a great piece of road, but be advised that the police did use it for training rides and were often seen on it a few years ago with groups of both plain and marked bikes. Not sure if they still do.

That's it!! Go telling everybody where i live and ride!! You stick to Helmesley and leave the York and the East coast alone!!
