Default Stuck on an island - ferry routes closed

Its going to get harder to avoid the hack down to Dover if this continues

DFDS announced yesterday it was stopping Newcastle/Norway from September http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tyne/7421579.stm and today its announced that the Superfast line Rosyth/Zeebrugge is also stopping http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/...st/7424029.stm

    That's a bit of a pain.

I used the Norway - Newcastle service last year and was hoping to use it again this September. Coming back from Zeebrugge to Rosyth in July this year, so will at least get to use it before it ends.

Bit odd they are axing the route from Rosyth if they are fully booked...?

Sounds sensible. The route always seems well booked so I hope it goes through.

Belgium AND Norway from Rosyth... that would be very handy!

Superfast ditched one of the ships and went from a daily to an alternate day sailing pattern with a larger ship.
Mood on board last week was that the new operator would get the nod and service would continue,
When we booked in March we got the last cabin for an end of May sailing and ship seemed pretty much full on way out.
Blockade at port on way back ensured a good number of folk missed the sailing.
We took the "wrong" road (note Royal "WE" ) and missed the blockade but nearly missed the Ferry as well. Just meant there was more grub available for seconds and thirds at the buffet!
Never argue with an idiot..onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.

A group of us had already booked the Rosyth Zeebrugh superfast going out on the 11th sept returning on the 19th so now that they are stopping the runs on the 14th our plans are up in the air. Negotiating with them for a refund on the return and trying to book amsterdam newcastle on the way back. Not going too smoothly though, superfast seem quite willing to refund all the costs but not just the return ?? Cant book the Amsterdam - newcastle till we get the Superfast situation sorted. They certainly charge enough so I dont know why they are pulling out, fuel prices are the quoted reason as they can run the ferry on their mediteranian routes on shorter runs, so less fuel, more profit. Will get it sorted one way or another.

Drew - take the full refund mate and go Newcastle to Ijmuiden instead, loads cheaper and a better ferry altogether

Hopefully the new Rosyth operator will mirror this.

The security gaurds on the Newcastle boat were very friendly too, just ask Davie, they only gave him the one fisting

Cheers Scott, had to go away and look up where Ijmuiden was in case I was going to norway or somewhere. Spoke to One of out group this afternoon and we have got a good deal, More than half refund from Superfast and a right good deal on the return into newcasle so it looks to be sorted with money refunded as well result !
