Fitting a Garmin Quest to a Multistrada - Technical

This is the method I used to fit a Quest to a Multistrada DS1000 S. it utilises the Garmin Motorcycle mount and RAM kit . Click the images for bigger photographs.

Clearance is very close and you need to take time and care positioning the bracket, test fitting as you tighten the bolts and thumbscrew.

First remove the upper moveable fairing by removing the 2 x 4 mm socket head bolts on each side. Remove the instrument panel, it is held on by 3 x 8mm nuts, one at the front underside, one on each side under the unit. You can leave the wiring loom in place.

I taped the bracket and the instrument support on the bike with insulating tape to stop it scratching. Take the u bolt and ball and fit to bracket like this

Tighten the U bolt until it is snug, then fit the RAM arm and garmin powered holder attached to the RAM circular plate and ball joint. The garmin holder needs to be postioned in the centre of the dash as close to the speedo unit as possible. This involves carefully adjusting the RAM ball joints and tightening the u bolts to keep it in position.

it is trial and error making sure everything is in the correct position do not fully tighten everything until you are certain it is in place.

As you adjust it check that there is clearance between the RAM bar and the inside fairing (yellow line on left hand photo above), check both lock directions you do not want it to catch when you are riding!! The Garmin holder should end up in the postion shown above, you will need to keep putting the speedo unit back in to check.

Try and get the mount as close to the speedo, if it is too far away you will not be able to get the Garmin out with the fairing and screen on. When it is in position and fully tightened refit speedo ( 3 bolts) and top fairing (4 bolts) . Make sure everything is clear and does not touch. I wired mine to the heated grips connector plug, making sure the wires went inside the headstock and did not get caught when steering head was turned. When its all in place you can remove the Garmin but it is very close clearance and care should be taken to avoid scratching the screen.
